The Embedded Solutions Architect, reports directly to the Corporate Vice President / General Manager of the business unit and is responsible for engaging and driving product & solution discussions with the CTOs/technical leaders of Embedded customers. They are responsible for driving features and solutions for target segments into AMD engineering teams. Responsibilities will include roadmap planning, technical strategy setting and frequent customer/partner interaction, for the entire Embedded product line.

The Embedded Solutions Architect is expected to interact with other industry technologists and architects and both vision-cast AMD’s Hardware/Software plans as well as keep AMD’s management and Engineering teams informed and alerted to emerging trends, technologies and market directions and to distill this knowledge into differentiating features for the product portfolio.

This job requires deep technical skills (across Networking, Storage and Edge Compute at large) as well as excellent interpersonal skills in interfacing with Customers, Partners and internal development teams.

Responsibilities and duties:

  • Comprehend cutting edge networking, storage and edge computing technologies in Embedded systems and direct processor features and solutions to leverage them
  • Interactions with customer technologists to sell AMD technology paving the way for strategic engagements and design wins
  • Conference and industry event attendance and speaking whenever possible
    • This is an important outbound activity to elevate AMD and its embedded products
  • Pre-sales and early design win engagements with marketing and Sales
  • Interaction and joint product planning with AMD marketing, architecture and engineering teams
    • Train internal engineering and marketing groups on new technology/trends
  • Travel to meet with strategic end-customers, OEMs and Partners
    • This involves presenting roadmaps, product plans and interaction to “mine” information that can help Embedded BU in planning and business development
  • Business development, and technical diligence as appropriate
  • Drive solutions ecosystem for AMD Embedded processors
  • Drive solutions for AMD Embedded processors

Qualifications and skills:

  • Minimum 20 years Wired & Wireless Networking, Storage and Embedded System experience:v
  • Prior hands-on experience proto-typing and leading development teams ideally with multi-core and embedded applications
  • Understanding of 5G Wireless technology, NFV and SDN technologies concepts, Edge Computing, x86 based Servers, Storage technologies .
  • Deep technical knowledge in following technologies areas: Wired Networking, Wireless Networking, Virtualization technologies, Embedded SW, Security, and Storage
  • Ability to distill complex networking, and embedded concepts for marketing and engineering teams to understand, develop requirements and build development plans around
  • Established (existing) relationships and prior interactions with technical leaders at Tier-1 Embedded OEMs including Networking & Storage vendors.
  • Understanding of Embedded Systems
    • Application/deployment scenarios
    • Understanding of networking L2/L7 speeds/feeds
    • Deep understanding of Processor Architecture
    • Understanding of embedded systems deployment
    • Server hardware: x86
    • Operating Systems / Hypervisors
      • Windows Server, Linux, OpenStack, VMware
    • Data Plane Development Kit environment (DPDK)
    • Knowledge of SW protocols and cloud technologies including Open vSwitch, Linux DPDK, Open Stack, Virtual machines, and Container
    • Application software and Drivers
    • I/O Hardware: NICs, HBAs, Accelerators
  • Security / Encryption knowledge
    • Basic IPSec, SSL, and DDOS technologies and differences
    • Encrypted Data in Flight and Encrypted Data at Rest understanding
  • Storage: Specific embedded Storage experience:
    • Understanding of Storage Target and Initiator architectures
    • Storage Plane Development Kit environment (SPDK)
    • Basic Compression/De-Dup knowledge
    • Familiarity with Scale-out Storage, HyperScale Infrastructure (HCI) and Software Defined Storage concepts
  • Other Requirements:
    • Must have excellent customer interaction and presentation skills
    • Must be a recognized industry expert in some Networking and Storage-related area: Embedded processors is preferable
