Product Development Group Lead

You will lead product development and the teams performing hardware & software engineering of Toradex products. You will be challenged with driving the development of industry-leading computing products & IoT services with a globally distributed multi-disciplinary group of talented engineers. You will be instrumental in keeping Toradex on the leading edge of technology by empowering innovations ranging from electronics to cloud services. Most importantly, your contributions will help our customers deliver increasingly advanced products in rigorous high-tech industries.

Description

The Product Development group is responsible for the development-end of the product lifecycle within Toradex's R&D department.  These products include (but are not limited to):

• Embedded Computer Hardware
  • Arm Cortex-A System-on-Modules
  • Carrier Boards
  • Adapters & Enabler products
• Embedded Software
  • Linux Yocto Project Board Support Packages
  • TorizonCore (Linux OS)
• Developer Tools
• Cloud Services

Roles & Responsibilities

In this role, you will report to the CTO, interface with product owners and another group lead and oversee a group of 5 globally-distributed engineering teams (up to 7 people per team):  Hardware, Linux BSP, TorizonCore, Torizon Platform & Windows CE (legacy).

The Product Development group closely coordinates with:

• the DevOps group to incorporate continuous integration & delivery services, test automation, release qualification & product support,
• the Marketing department to jointly plan products, features & releases,
• the Business Processes department to ensure quality, compliance, lifecycle and other business standards & processes are satisfied.

As the leader of the group, you will provide technical leadership, perform managerial roles to empower these teams and oversee the group’s portfolio of engineering projects. You will ensure the needs of various stakeholders are met, provide technical direction to the group’s engineering teams and optimize execution efficiency & effectiveness. Additionally, you will:

• Champion group-level objectives, including:
  • Product & service quality
  • Technology & architecture alignment
  • Automation & reproducibility
  • Supportability & maintainability
• Manage Product Development processes & objectives
• Perform cross-functional technical management
• Coordinate development using SCRUM and Agile Release Train frameworks
• Promote DevOps methodologies
• Work collaboratively with other stakeholders to plan product, service and feature releases
• Manage group budgeting, prioritization, risk management & reporting
• Manage team leads directly reporting to you & oversee personnel matters within the group

Desired Skills & Experience

• Engineering complex hardware & software products in embedded computing, IoT and/or related fields
• Managing globally distributed development teams using Agile & DevOps methodologies
• Product and project management skills: the ability to systematically plan, track, execute and document throughout the product development lifecycle
• Problem/needs analysis, requirements analysis & system design
• Knowledge of the ARM architecture, ARMv7/ARMv8
• Extensive experience with embedded Linux, Yocto Project and/or real-time operating systems
• Software configuration management tools like Git and related concepts (e.g. branching, tagging and merging)
• Excellent communication skills – fluent English language skills in reading / writing / speaking / presentations
